The Giraffe is the tallest mammal in the world, with even new-born babies being taller than most humans at about 6 feet. They can stand within half an hour and run alongside their family after 10 hours. They most of their lives standing up; they even sleep and give birth standing up. Speaking of sleep, they have the shortest need of any mammal-10 minutes to 2 hours per day! Giraffes are sociable, peaceful animals which rarely fight. Males do perform a behavior called ‘necking’ where they will hit necks; this rarely lasts more than a couple of minutes and seldom causes injury. Just like snowflakes and human fingerprints, no two giraffes have the same spot pattern.
